Yes, it is winter in the N Georgia Mountains, but that does not mean there is nothing to do!

It can be cold, it can even be snowy, and some say it can be bleak.  Many of us think of our winters as a time to learn to enjoy the solitude the season affords and the time to learn more about our neighbors and communities.

There is always the sightseeing.  While the trees are bare, a trip to any mountain top affords a view of the lakes and countryside you do not get in the full bloom of summer.  At this time of year it is not overshadowed by new growth or explosions of fall colors, it is a beauty in its own right.

Beyond the hiking there is the Union County Historic Trail.  The Mountain Life Museum is free and consists of several historic buildings on site.  How about picking up some fresh ground grits or flour at the Logan Turnpike Mill.  The products made at the mill, as they have an antique Williams grist mill circa 1916 and a 1926 Fairbanks Morse hit-n-miss engine mounted on a buckboard wagon with iron wheels.

Daytime classes are held at our institute for continuing learningLearning opportunities vary here from Winter Birding to How to play Mah-Jongg.
